Blackjack’s Objective
Both easy to learn and easy to beat, online Blackjack is a highly popular card-game and a casino favorite. Its aim is simple – build a hand that’s valued as close as possible to 21 without exceeding it. In online Blackjack, it only needs to be higher than the dealer’s hand in order to win.
Blackjack Rules:
There are few rules to online Blackjack; basically, each player receives an initial hand of 2 cards, and can add as many as needed in order to reach 21. If the final hand is less in value than the dealer’s or more than 21 points, the player loses. If the hand is worth more than the dealer’s or the dealer busts (exceeds 21), the player wins.
The cards in online Blackjack have different values;
- 2-10 = face value
- Jack - King = 10
- Ace = either 1 or 11 (whatever is better suited to the hand). When an Ace is drawn with any 10-point-card, this is worth exactly 21 and is called “Blackjack”.
The course of the game in online Blackjack follows this outline:
- The dealer deals 2 cards to each player face-down.
- The dealer draws cards until his/her hand reaches or passes 17.
- Each player receives the opportunity to draw more cards until everyone is satisfied with their hand value.
- All hands are revealed and the winners determined.
Online Blackjack Terminology
Free Blackjack games generally provide the following playing options:
- Hit – draw another card
- Stand – draw no more cards
- Double Down – double one’s bet and draw only 1 more card.
In real-money online Blackjack, players are offered additional options:
- Split – when 2 cards of the same denomination are drawn, the player can use 1 of them in that round of Blackjack and the second card in the next round of Blackjack.
- Insurance – if the dealer’s face-up card is an Ace, the player can bet that the face-down card is worth 10 points, meaning the dealer has Blackjack. Insurance costs half the original bet, yet pays 2:1 such that no money is lost if the dealer does indeed draw Blackjack.
Blackjack Variations
Online Blackjack comes in a variety of shapes and sizes. These are some of the most popular online Blackjack variants:
- 21 Duel Blackjack: uses community cards that are combined with one of the player’s initial 2 cards in order to build a hand.
- Blackjack Switch: players are dealt 2 hands at once and can switch cards between them.
